"Olive Beach takes you on a wild Mediterranean experience."
As you sit, at your cande lit table sipping your White Jamaican, you can see Manish Malhotra at another table. The last time you were here you ran into Waheeda Rehman. So what? A good restaurant, which serves excellent food, is sure to attract customers (Page 3 People or others!) like bees to honey. Talking about honey, Olive Beach bartenders can serve up some chilling cocktails like Raspberry Martini which has muddled raspberries infused with fresh thymne and Orange Julep which has citrus notes, fresh mint and vermouth.
So it is not just the guest list and the cocktails which Olive Beach serves up. Committed to providing a great atmosphere, the first and third Mondays of every month have upcoming jazz musicians playing for you, while alternate wednesdays are dedicated to the arty crowd. Called Flea by Nite, you get to experience a flea market even as you idly chew on a sumptuous prawn. A plate of Prawns Verde (char roasted herb marinated prawns with Aioli would cost Rs. 455).
Well, that brings us to food. Afterall, a restaurant's main job is to serve great food, isn't it? So talking about food, Chef Manu Chandra has become a celebrity in his own cause with quite a few magazines interviewing him and I am not surprised as I plunge my fork into my food.
As tender lights went up, and the sound of voices talking surrounded me, I fell into a meditative silence as I glanced through the menu. Soup can fill u one's stomach and so I passed up on it and settled instead for Caeser's Salad with Anchovies, Crisp Smoked Bacon Rashers, Garlic Crouton and Parmesan.
My friend and I then went for a plate of Portugese Chicken Espetada which had pit roasted chicken morsels in a lovely mix of sund dried tomato and paprika.
For the main course I went for a FILET which was Pan Basted, with Gruyere Dauphinoise, Ricotta Stuffed Morels, Greek Olive Oil and Herbs and topped it off with an amazing dessert – AFFOGATO which had cofee bean and Kahlua ise cream with `Ameretti' bitter almond cookies and biscotti.
And so I should be humming a song on the way back home, my stomach filled with great food, my head lighter as a result of the cocktail and a song on my lips which the music had reminded me of. But I am melancholic. I wonder if I really have the money to spend on a feast like this more often.. and the answer is there.. for mercenaries, Olive Beach has a Sunday Brunch which includes a sumptuous buffet and unlimited liquor. So next time, you want to sigh that your experience at Olive Beach is over too soon, don't worry – there is a Sunday in every week!
