"Mynt is tastefully refreshing"
The Taj West End is possibly the best hotel I’ve ever seen: within it lies a mini rainforest with grandfather trees and birds and old English style villas. And ‘Mynt’, the 24-hour café is no less: Relaxed and bright, spilling out into a green lawn surrounded by trees. But what really attracted me to it was a craving for some hummus.

‘Mynt’ I knew had mediterranean cuisine on the menu – which, as I browsed, also had Italian and Indian: a crisp and apt list of each, albeit overpriced by my reckoning. However, when I got there, there was a decent lunch buffet at hand, and considering it would give me a taste of various foods, I dived straight in.

The seats are very comfortable, the service is very cordial and I passed up the quite well stocked drink menu for a drink off the buffet: Besides a Kesar cooler and buttermilk there was a fizzy fruity mocktail which was really very good and I had it in gallons.

Next, there was the salad bar: a customized salad (I had the chef toss some greens with some vinaigrettes), and a row of salads/starters that included such things as apple+sausage, tomato+balsamico, chicken salad, some chaat, vegetables+mango vinaigrette, lamb carpaccio, and of course hummus, baba ghanouj, tabouleh, fattoush and some others. These went down very well with some breads and pita.

Then there were main course dishes; the best thing being that just about everything was novel or experimental to me: such as Zaffrani fish, Lebanese style lamb, an Indian style fish etc. and further down the array: babycorn bake floating in molten cheese, some south Indian style vegetables, biryani etal.

But of course, there was a live shawarma counter and pasta and pizza to order. As always I jumped at the pizza: which came with a true Italian crust, parma ham and vegetables and cheese and was really very good, but just too much to do justice to. By the time I was down a couple of (those huge) pieces I was stuffed and unfortunately had to forgo the shawarma and pasta as well.

This is when I stepped out for a walk and discovered hidden by-lanes and corridors; it was like walking through surprising woods. When back, ready for sugar, I stocked up on one of each dessert: that included a hardcore chocolate mousse, a good strawberry crumble, a slightly sugary passionfruit crème brulee, a caramel mousse, rasmalai, gulabjamun and an attractive whole fruit gateaux cake that I had the honour of inaugurating.

Long ago I had a Sunday brunch here and this lunch could hardly match up to that experience. But although the choice in food was much less than I expected, the quality held its own.
In the end, a quiet cappuccino sitting in the green outdoors.

"Sunday Brunch @ Mynt (Taj West End)"
Free flowing champagne and beer and a couple of really good cocktails, mocktails, juices. What a good start.
Then, an array of cheeses, cold cuts, breads, a very impressive salad choice. Pickles, sauces, add-ons.
Authentic Italian pizza(s) and pasta(s) that are created right then and served generously at your table. And more South European food including salted fish on ice.
Lebanese wraps and meats. Indian kebabs and stuff. An open grill counter outside. And probably the best dessert section I've seen including live flambé.
The ambience is airy, bright, indoor-outdoor, great with strategic distractions for children as well. This was my first Sunday Brunch fix and a pretty good one. Time (and money) well spent.

* 12–4pm, ~ Rs. 2200
