"Ballygunge Place – Flavours of Bengal"
If you want authentic Bengal cuisine, then Ballygunge is the right place. Situated in Indiranagar, the restaurant is almost like a house with multiple dining rooms. Ballygunge gives you the feeling that you are actually visting some Bengali friends.

In this cozy, comfortable and airy restaurant, the buffet has some really mouth watering dishes like Mouralla Machher Peyaji with is a fish starter dish. The Posto Narkel Bora Bhaja was distinct in its flavour but the best dish was Galda Chingri Chiney Kabab which is stuffed jumbo prawns flavoured with hot spices and then baked. Yum!!!

And so you have a sumptuous menu with seafood playing a major role and you can choose from Kakra Chingri Paturi which is crabmeat and prawns roasted on a plantain leaf or Rui Macher Shuktoni which is, as the chef calls it 'Grandma's recipe of rohu flavoured with ginger and radhuni'.

But what I really enjoyed was Mochar Ghonto which is a melange of banana florettes, potato & coconut, flavoured with cumin seeds.

Baked Sandesh was a dessert which is easily recognisable and consummable.

As I ate my lunch, I could watch the rain coming down and a few grey clouds cast a shadow blocking the afternoon sun. I watched the green leaves soaking in the rain water and could hear a bird chirping somewhere in the distance. Inside the restaurant, the smell of food assailed my nostrils and the soft sound of people conversing in Bengali came to my ears. I ate my food and was transfixed in time. That afternoon in Ballygunge is now etched in my memory. A wonderful way to spend a day in the company of a friend, eating great food and watching the rains.

A meal for two could cost around Rs.600/-.

"Maacher Jhol !"

I would definately agree with the description that has been given for Bengali food in the restaurants description.
Bengali food is one of my favourite Cusines. The food here will make you feel that you are actually in Ballygunge in Kolkatta. Tha ambience is not all that great but the food is finger licking good.
If you are a sweet tooth like me then please check out the mishti doi which comes straight from Kolkatta. The sandesh. The cham cham. Kheer khadam hhmmmm, yummy! (understatement!)
well, the same goes for the food too. The food is authentic and great but not great value for money. Its a little expensive. Here a meal for 2 would cost you nothing less than Rs.800-Rs.900.
So if you want to pamper your taste buds to some delicacy's from the east, 6 Ballygunge is the place.
