"SANA-DI-GE - A Coastal Melange"
sana-di-ge is for those seafood lovers who will not compromise on freshness. Having said that, seafood can be cooked in any way, but if it is fresh then it automatically becomes yummily edible.
And so for these lovers of larger-than-life sized crabs, lobsters, pomfrets, kane and silver fish, along with the restaurant manager, Melwyn D Souza, all these friends from the sea wait to greet you at the entrance. Therefore, on your way in, you can stop by the display of sea food, arranged neatly on banana leaves, choose your food and then relax in the restaurant's outdoor seating space or sit in airconditioned comfort in the main room.
The food is priced reasonably and gives you a choice of Kerala, Manglorean, Goan and Malwan cuisine.
I started my gastronomic journey with `Ambyache Pani' a Malwan mango nectar drink flavored with saffron and spices.
For starters, I went Manglorean and check out Bharli Machchi which is fresh pomfret stufffed with green herbs masala and pan fried.
Taking my coastal voyage another step I induled in Stuffed Crab which is succulent shredded crab meat tossed with fiery goan spices, stuffed back into the shell and baked.
My friend went berserk on Meen Roast (fillet of fish marinated with ginger and lemon and cooked on the girdle) and Kerala Roast chicken.
I can go and on, describing the menu which I think offers a choice of nearly 40 – 50 different dishes. Having said, that, even in coastal cuisine, Sana di ge is offering selective food to cater to different tastes from different coastal regions.
What really impressed me was the size of the lady fish (Kane) which was really huge! I believe, the restaurant, gets its seafood directly from Mangalore and there is really no compromise on the quality or choice.
So next time, you want to shake hands with a not-very-friendly crab before eating it, drop by sana di ge. While the hand shake may not be a great experience, I can assure you that the eating after will be a memorable experience!
